Torviscosa, a Planned Community Town
Building in Torviscosa began in 1937. The town has many of the features of a 20th century planned community, but unlike others, which were built to meet the needs of state economic policy, Torviscosa was created to support the industrial activity of a private company and became, at the same time, a company town. Together with the typical Fascist architecture of the age, Torviscosa also has a particular urban design that divides it into functional areas corresponding to the social life organised and supported by the company.
The SNIA community in Torviscosa also has a dual nature: it is both an industrial and agricultural community. The surrounding area of the town was therefore designed, organised and managed according to the company’s needs.
